Shaving Tips

Shaving tips

The most important thing is preparation!

1.  Try to take the time to exfoliate your skin before you shave to avoid clogging up your razor with dry skin and dirt.  It is worth investing in a good exfoliating cleaner which does two jobs in one, great for the time strapped guy!
2.  Once your skin is smooth from the exfoliation, apply heat (you dont need a fancy hot towel machine, just get a face cloth as hot as you can with tap water).  Steam and heat opens the pores and softens the hair which allows the razor to get a closer shave.
3.  Use a shave oil.  Smooth on some shave oil under your usual shave cream/foam to lubricate the skin.  You wont believe the difference when your razor glides so much more smoothly over your skin.
4.  Use a shave brush.  Putting on a shaving cream/foam with a brush in a circular motion really makes sure every hair is covered and the product reaches under stubborn stubble.
5.  Change your blades regularly.  Even a slightly blunt razor will catch on your stubble and skin causing bumps and rashes.  A good sharp blade will make sure the shaving experience is as kind to the skin as it can be.
6.  Shave with the grain and take your time.  Only ever shave against the grain if some areas have very heavy growth and if your skin is used to it.  Shaving against the grain is one of the biggest causes of shaving rashes.
7.  After shaving, rinse your face with warm water and generously apply a good quality post shave moisturising balm.

Salon Photo Shoot

We had an amazing day doing our photo shoot for the salon at the end of September.  Ian, our super talented stylist made a short 3 minute video of the day (which you can see on the blog) or you can go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7QBpb352yY

The team at The Players Lounge always keep up to date with new styles and cutting edge techniques by regular training and photo shoots.  Some of the photos from the day have been entered in an American Crew competition.  We will keep you posted with how we get on!

Look out for the new photos going on the web site hopefully next week.

BGT1  BGT

OK, so this happened a couple of months ago, but we were pretty excited, and we have nice photos so have decided to put it on the blog!

We have had footballers, rugby players, TV and radio presenters in the salon but nothing got the girls here more excited than the dancers from Diversity and Flawless coming in to get groomed prior to their Edinburgh Show!

‘The Players Lounge’

When I started thinking about launching ‘The Players Lounge’ I knew wanted to make a space for men to get their hair done, have a shave, possibly a facial watch a bit of telly and, above all, relax and enjoy their experience. Edinburgh had barbers on every corner, and good ones as well. But like other places men visit (pubs, clubs, gyms, the bookies, football and rugby stadiums …..…), you don’t often hear men raving about barbers. So with this in mind, we thought about what relaxes a lot of men and after weeks of lists, brain storming  and a heck of a lot of role playing we came up with a few simple ideas;

Men Like:  Sports. Television. Drink. Music. Games consoles – a basic list but pretty much spot on!

Now, we initially served ice cold beer and that really got us talked about (which was great!) but the long arm of the law pulled a pinchy face, so we pulled it in to Becks Blue, (which still actually tastes good. And you can drive.)  But the sports, television, Play Stations and music stayed.  We then carefully chose different team members who have turned out to be truly talented.  Our wonderful team offer fantastic service and inject an amazing energy and soul into the salon.   Without them – Sara, William, Karla and Ian – the salon would not be what it is today.

There has been a great deal of hard work put into getting ‘The Players Lounge’ on the Edinburgh map/scene since we opened in May 2007.  Working on PR, advertising and basically persuading anyone I vaguely know to visit the salon and to tell their friends about us has been great fun and I have met a lot of incredible people along the way.   It has taken a while, a bit of stress and loads of hard work to establish the brand, but it has worked and has paid off, slowly but surely. We have generated a loyal following of clients from all across Edinburgh and the Lothian’s and some from further afield!  And even little things like the  ’credit crunch’ and the dreaded trams haven’t deterred our amazing clients from continuing to come to the salon, and to that end I thank you for continuing to choose ‘The Players Lounge’ as your favourite place to relax and unwind.

With two and a half years under our belts now, we are still working hard always striving to improve our salon and our service and keep things fresh and up to date for our clients.   We always welcome feedback and comments so feel free to let us know what YOU think.

Thanks again!!
